Meghan McCain slammed haters who "mercilessly trolled" the former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst on social media which was not received well by Twitter users, who threatened to dig up Meghan’s old tweets trolling Vice President Kamala Harris, and Chief Medical Advisor Dr Anthony Fauci, among others.

McCain in her tweet describes trolls as “a dark poison” that society and social media are plagued with and proceeded to claim that these trolls target and hurt women. She explained how Cheslie Kryst was a stunning and successful civil litigation attorney who was often mercilessly trolled on social media.

“We have to start facing the fact that there is a dark poison in our society and social media that is directly hurting women. Cheslie Kryst was a stunning, Miss USA winning, accomplished civil litigation attorney who was open about being "mercilessly trolled on social media".

The tweet garnered mixed reactions from the Twitter users who mostly pointed out Meghan McCain’s old tweets about Vice President Kamla Harris. “She rarely takes a break from her trolling of Kamala Harris,” wrote a Twitter user. “Glass house, Megs? Aren’t you always attacking someone, via social media? I mean, 90 percent of your articles are negative attack ads against Dems,” said another Twitter user. One said, "So, are you taking a good hard long look at yourself?"

Just hours before Cheslie Kryst jumped to her death, she had posted a picture on Instagram with the caption, "May this day bring you rest and peace". The 30-year-old winner of Miss USA 2019, then leaped to her death from the 29th floor of the Orion condominium building in the theatre district of Manhattan at 7:05 am on Sunday, January 30. The NYPD has said that the death was a suicide. However, the cause of her death will be ruled by the medical examiner after an autopsy.

Kryst had also worked as an entertainment news correspondent for Extra TV. She had even been nominated for an Emmy. "Our hearts are broken," Extra TV said in a statement. "Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends."

Cheslie won Miss USA in 2019 and was a former civil litigation attorney who received her MBA and a law degree from Wake Forest University. "She was one of the brightest, warmest, and most kind people we have ever had the privilege of knowing, and she lit up every room she entered," the Miss Universe and Miss USA Organizations said in a joint statement.
