Meghan Markle said same things that Princess Diana felt 25 years ago: The tragic story of their depression
It is nearly impossible to deny a stark similarity between Meghan Markle's latest tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey and Princess Diana's shocking 1995 interview with Martin Bashir, which ultimately led to the end of Diana's marriage with Prince Charles. On the eve of Women's Day 2021, Meghan opened up about how the Royal Family treated her, driving her to the point of even having 'suicidal thoughts'.
Meghan's husband, Harry, remarked that at one point he felt it was 'history repeating itself', adding that he was worried his mother's story would repeat itself in Meghan, reveals the CBS interview. On an emotional note, Meghan opened up about her depressive episodes which led the Internet to draw parallels between Meghan and Diana's tragic stories.

How Harry was snubbed by his own father when he sought help for Meghan
During the interview with Oprah, Harry opened up about the intense correlation he spotted between his wife and his late mother and became constantly worried about 'history repeating itself'. His worries were only escalated by social media and the underlying racial tensions.
When he asked for help from his family, he received no support. Rather, his own father Prince Charles stopped answering his calls. And that was the last straw for Harry, after which he and Meghan seriously considered stepping away from the Royal family.
Meghan and Princess Diana - A similar story, 25 years apart
On November 20, 1995, Princess Diana shared heartbreaking anecdotes of her Royal life in a tell-all interview with Martin Bashir for BBC. Pointing out the resemblance to the current estranged royal, a user tweeted: "Knowing that meghan went through the exact same is so unsettling diana couldn’t save herself but she somehow saved harry, meg and baby archie 30 years later. they’re her true legacy."

During her first solo interview without Prince Charles by her side, Diana spoke out about her struggle with postpartum depression following the birth of Prince William in 1982. A young Diana was battling with depression alone while the Royal Family turned the other way and labeled her as 'unstable' and 'mentally unbalanced'.
"I felt like I was the first person ever in the royal family to openly cry and nobody knew what to do," she had famously told Bashir, reported Popsugar. Rather she earned hurtful and insensitive adjectives from her family, owing to her depression.
In fact, her mental health hit such a low point that she resorted to self-harming, by 'hurting her arms and legs'. Her struggle with bulimia was also severe, as she would throw up multiple times a day, depending on her stress levels for the day. There was a time when the 'People's Princess' failed to cope with the pressures around her and was crying out for help. In the 1992 memoir 'Diana: Her True Story - in Her Own Words', Diana's biographer Andrew Morton revealed that she tried to commit suicide around five times.
Now, 25 years later, in a heartbreaking moment, Meghan opened up about having 'methodical' thoughts of suicide, during her first few days as a royal, to the point where she 'couldn't be left alone'. "That was a very clear and real and frightening thought," Meghan told Oprah in the CBS interview. There was a point when she felt like a captive inside the palace, as her license, passport, and credit cards were taken away after her wedding.
As a desperate measure to seek support, Meghan approached senior officials at the palace, who are called the 'Institution'. She wanted help to cope with her suicidal thoughts and even check into a hospital if need be. But she was turned down by the officials, who felt such a step would not be perceived well in the public eye.
On an emotional note, Meghan added that people should be kind because they are unaware of what others are undergoing behind 'closed doors'.
Twitter acknowledges Harry's support to Meghan
Internet users drew parallels between the sufferings both Diana and Meghan had to endure during their close association with the Royal family. However, people also acknowledged how supportive Harry has been with Meghan, which Prince Charles never was with Diana. "I said the same thing. Meghan said that she felt suicidal and cried so much even after she had Archie just like Diana did. The only difference is that Charles did nothing & let Diana suffer in misery but Harry wasn't going to let the same treatment continue with Mehgan."

"People can bash Harry and Meghan all they want but Harry came through and protected his wife and family. Something Charles didn’t, he threw Diana to the paparazzi, never supported or protected her. I am proud of Harry" wrote another user. A furious user expressed: "Note the pattern in how Buckingham Palace treats the wives of it's heirs - drives them to depression and suicide, and then denies them help all for the sake of it's image. It did it to Diana and it tried to do it to Meghan. All that matters is that they produce heirs. T" "tw // self harm, depression What Meghan just said about her mental state whilst being in the RF is exactly what Princess Diana said MORE than 25 years ago & nothing has changed since! #HarryandMeghanonOprah #OprahMeghanHarry" another pointed out.
