The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle earlier this year informed that they wanted to step back from royal duties, in order to be able to earn an income and become financially independent of the taxpayer. This decision that has been dubbed as “Megxit”, has seen a lot of media attention and mean-spirited commentary. Naturally, it has been a stressful time for the Duchess of Sussex. But Meghan’s mother insisted that her daughter was dealing with it fine.

Reportedly, Doria Ragland said that her daughter is “strong”. A source close to the 63-year-old yoga instructor and social worker said she has revealed to People magazine that Doria said, “Meghan is strong and will always be okay.” The source also mentioned about how Doria adored her grandchild Archie Mountbatten-Windsor: “She says her grandson is the cutest.”

“She and Meghan are so close,” another source told People magazine. “Harry really gets on well with her too. Any new mom wants her own mom around at this time, so it’s great.”

Doria’s comments arrive days after Queen Elizabeth released a statement about the Sussexes’ desire to take a step back from the Royal family. It said, “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

The Duchess of Sussex has been seeing her mother a lot lately. She and Prince Harry spent Thanksgiving with Doria in the U.S., who joined the couple and Archie again on their Canadian holiday at Christmas.

As the Sussexes plan to spend more of their time moving between England and Canada, one can only expect that Meghan will see more of her mother in the months to come.
