Meghan Markle and Prince Harry take baby Archie to tea with anti-apartheid campaigner Desmond Tutu
Baby Archie, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was seen making his first appearance on the royal tour as he met veteran anti-apartheid campaigner Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The 4-month-old was seen posing with 'The Arch' along with his proud parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The Sussex' released adorable footage of the pair carrying around their baby along with the caption, "Arch meets Archie!" As per a video shared on their Instagram account, the couple can be seen smiling as Meghan holds onto Archie.
The royals were greeted by Archbishop Tutu and his daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe. Prince Harry was seen lovingly putting his arm around Meghan as they walked with Archie who was seen in a pair of blue dungarees and matching booties. The mother of one joked about how Archie would have to get used to having cameras all around him while Tutu-Gxashe joked that Archie was "going to be a ladies man."
The Nobel Prize winner revealed that he was absolutely thrilled by the "rare privilege and honor." Tutu Gxashe joked, "I have cameras in my genes" to which Prince Harry shared, "I think he is used to it already."
Tutu, 87, had been one of the most vocal campaigners for Nelson Mandela's release from prison. He had the opportunity to spend around four hours with Meghan, Harry, and Archie on the historic premises of his 'Legacy Foundation' in Cape Town: the Old Granary. He met the royals along with his daughter Tutu Gxashe who is the CEO of the Desmond Tutu Desk campaign.
The campaign makes portable desks for schoolchildren. Prince Harry had last met Archbishop Tutu in 2015 when the Queen had named him the honorary member of The Order of the Companions of Honour. This was to recognize his services to United Kingdom Communities and also International Peace and Reconciliation.
