The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, were a picture of elegance as they made their way towards the Natural History Museum on Tuesday night. This was the first appearance by the Duchess after her father Thomas Markle revealed some of her private correspondence to the press.

Meghan, who is expecting her first child in April this year, opted for a custom cream roll-neck dress by Calvin Klein and an £895 ($1,155) coat by royal favorite Amanda Wakeley as she joined Harry at the gala to watch a play on Charles Darwin, reports Daily Mail.

The couple got to watch 'The Wider Earth', a critically acclaimed theatrical production about the young Charles Darwin’s expedition on HMS Beagle. The entire performance was held in support of the Queen's Commonwealth Trust (QCT) and the production's official charitable partner The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy (QCC).

While arriving for the performance, Meghan was even presented with a bouquet by Sage Saunders from London whose father is American and mother is Canadian, which was quite the conversation starter, since the Duchess too was born in California and spent several years working in Toronto as an actress.

Once inside the historic London landmark museum, the royal couple met donors and children, while also taking a look at some of the exhibits on show, including a preserved common octopus collected by Darwin in 1832, a first copy of 'On The Origin of Species', and a collection of wasps he made on The Beagle.

It was earlier revealed that Meghan's father publicly shared the contents of a letter addressed to him which was five pages long and written in his daughter's elegant script. Thomas said he had not shown it to anyone as "it was just too painful".

Thomas shared, "When I opened the letter I was hoping it was the olive branch I’d longed for. I was expecting something that would be a pathway to reconciliation. Instead, it was deeply hurtful. I was so devastated I couldn’t show it to anyone and never would have had it not been for the events of last week."

In one angry paragraph, Meghan reportedly blasts her father for not telling her that he wouldn't be able to walk her down the aisle, a task which Prince Charles happily took on. "You’ve told the press that you called me to say you weren’t coming to the wedding — that didn’t happen because you never called," Meghan had reportedly written.

The very existence of the letter was revealed by the Duchess of Sussex's close friends and reportedly featured a long message from a heartbroken Meghan trying to fix things with her father. (Photo by Heathcliff O'Malley - WPA Pool/Getty Images)
