A member of the Democratic party has said that Meghan Markle has the potential to become a perfect candidate in US politics. The comment from Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, president of the California Young Democrats, came after the Duchess of Sussex's interview with Oprah Winfrey alongside Prince Harry dominated news headlines and social media chatter around the world.

During the tell-all interview, Meghan Markle, with Harry by her side, exposed the racism she faced from the royal family. She also spoke about her mental health and how she thought of killing herself while in the UK. The ‘Suits’ actress received a lot of support from across the globe, especially from the US and the White House.

This is why, Rodriguez-Kennedy thinks that the 39-year-old’s bold stand on bullying and mental health can give her a great career in politics. He said, “The Duchess is definitely viewed favorably in California and she is elevating issues that are finally starting to get the attention they are due – issues like racism, bullying, mental health awareness, the importance of a worker’s right to organize. We are here for it.”

Rodriguez-Kennedy continued, “Since we are a republic, many Americans are fascinated by the British monarchy, so it is not surprising that this would be a popular topic here. What makes it even more interesting is how modern-day issues like racism and mental health are dealt with and talked about in the royal family, which is both very visible but shrouded in mystery at the same time. I would say it’s very clear that the Duchess has democratic values. The Democratic Party is the party of the people, we welcome all who support our platform regardless of rank, class, gender, race or any other characteristic.”

“That being said, our party does not place royalty above any other member of our party as it is not consistent with our values of social justice, economic justice, and equity in public policy. In general, Democrats are wary of royalty whether it be members of a foreign monarchy’s royal family or of political dynasties here at home," he remarked about how Meghan Markle would be treated were she to join the Democratic party. He added, "I think it’s possible she could enter the political realm but the Duchess would have to build trust with the constituency she would like to serve. In the end, the people decide.”

Rodriguez-Kennedy was also asked if Meghan Markle can join the present government or has the chance to join future Democrat administrations. He responded, “I honestly have no idea how that might work but assuming the Duchess remains a citizen of the United States, I presume that she could serve in Democratic administrations. Often celebrities are tapped as ambassadors or committee chairs but I have no insight on how or if that could happen.”

This comes after British activist Nigel Farage said Meghan Markle will enter the political world of America and was "ambitious from the start for something different than royal service and duty". The former politician told EDxpress.co.uk, “Well she’d be welcomed with open arms by the West Coast celebrities, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, so I’d be very surprised if she doesn’t."

Farage also accused the soon-to-be-mother and Prince Harry of hurting the Royal family through their interview with Oprah Winfrey. He stated, “No question in my mind that all titles they hold should be removed. They should be cut off for what they’ve done. From the start, they wanted it both ways. They wanted the titles but didn’t want to do the job. They wanted the titles and make money. They wanted to have their cake and eat it and you simply can’t do both."
