Meghan Markle close to tears as she describes the intense media scrutiny even as she struggled with pregnancy and motherhood
Meghan Markle has spoken out about how she "struggled" to cope with the media scrutiny through the early stages of her marriage to Prince Harry, her subsequent pregnancy, and the first months as a young mother.
The Duchess of Sussex revealed in an emotional interview for an upcoming documentary what she went through during the past months, coping with drastic changes in her private life in the midst of growing public interest and the prying eyes of the media, The Sun reports.
Meghan is asked in the clip about the "impact on your physical and mental health of all the pressure that you clearly feel under."
"I would say…look any woman, especially when they are pregnant, you are really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging," the 38-year-old royal said. “And then when you have a newborn, you know?
“And especially as a woman it’s really, it’s really a lot," she added. “So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mum or trying to be a newlywed it’s…"
Meghan then continues explaining her troubled emotional state, saying "not many people" checked in to see if she was really doing okay. “Well, I guess, and also thank you for asking, but not many people have asked if I’m ok, but it’s a very real thing to be faint through behind the scenes," she said.
"And the answer is, would it be fair to say, not really ok?" the reporter asked Meghan. "As in, it’s really been a struggle?"
Meghan responded while fighting back tears, "yes."
The intimate conversation is an excerpt from an upcoming documentary 'Harry & Meghan: An African Journey', filmed by broadcaster Tom Bradby during Meghan and Harry's royal tour of Africa. The film is set to premiere Sunday 4/3c on ITV and will cover the Duchess' struggle to cope with the unwanted attention she received from both the media and the public ever since she married into the British royal family.
