Meghan Markle's family fears this may be the last time they celebrate Thanksgiving with the Duchess
Meghan Markle's family worries that because of her "unique situation", they might never get to share another Thanksgiving with the new mother. The 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex may ditch her plan to be in LA for the holiday and fly her mother Doria Ragland to the UK instead.
Meghan's uncle, 70-year-old Joseph Johnson, still possesses a trove of family photos with his half-sister and niece. He shared with Daily Mail that he has plenty of happy memories of past holidays they spent together as a family.
"You know, it's been a long time since we all celebrated the holidays together," he told the outlet. "What I remember is that it was always nice for the family to get together, although it's been maybe years since we saw Meghan and her mother," he recalled.
"It was always a good time. We've got a little, small family – not a lot of cousins, uncles and that kind of thing that we know of. So when we got together, we were always happy to see each other."
"She (Meghan) was always a sweetheart. Always just the sweetest, most pleasant little girl. Just a pleasant person, a joy to be around," Johnson added.
Ever since she began dating Prince Harry, Meghan has not seen any of her family members other than mother Doria. Her father, 73-year-old Thomas Markle, is believed to be spending the holidays at his Rosarito, Mexico, residence.
Joseph bemoaned the constant attacks by some of Meghan's family members and said he doesn't "recognize that person" in their descriptions of her.
"They have their reasons for why they see things the way they do and why they say the things they say," he told the Daily Mail. "There are two sides to every story and we don't feel that way. The person that they're talking about, how she always wanted to be a princess and this and that – well I don't know that person."
Meanwhile, Meghan's relatives have released a series of family photos showing what Thanksgiving was like in the household before she became the Duchess of Sussex.
However, Meghan is reportedly considering flying Doria to Frogmore Cottage, Windsor, for the festive time, sources told the outlet. Meghan and Harry celebrated the last two Christmases with The Queen in Sandringham. They confirmed they would celebrate the holidays this year with Doria instead.
"This decision is in line with the precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen," Buckingham Palace said.
This will be the Sussexes' first Thanksgiving after Archie Harrison's birth in May this year.
