Pregnant Meghan Markle makes a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards and steals the show in her Givenchy gown
Meghan Markle might be pregnant, but she's not letting her condition bring her down from popping up at places she wants to go. The Duchess of Sussex made quite a surprising appearance at the British Fashion Awards, where she had her spectators enthralled as she gave a speech on women empowerment. A pregnant Meghan was introduced by actress Rosamund Pike, who revealed that the Duchess had been called to present the prestigious British Womenswear Designer of the Year award to her wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller, of Givenchy.
She was the same designer who helped create the silk boat-necked gown and long billowing veil Meghan wore to marry Prince Harry within St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May. Keller, during her acceptance speech, thanked the Duchess personally, describing her as “amazing”. She said, “This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life … I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.”
The pregnant Duchess stunned the crowds in a fitted black one-shoulder velvet gown by Givenchy, and as is becoming her go-to style, Meghan had her hair pulled back in a sleek bun. “It’s so nice to see so many familiar faces,” she told the crowd. “As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes it’s very personal, sometimes it’s emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in, really, being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.”
The Duchess' surprise visit at the award function comes right on the heels of her father Thomas Markle defending her amid feud rumors between her and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Speaking about the manner in which his daughter Meghan has been portrayed in some of the news reports circulating on the duo's alleged feud, Thomas said, "I don’t recognize this person."
Meghan's dad claimed that he was immensely surprised by the recent reports of a feud between his daughter and the Duchess of Cambridge. He pointed out, "The Meghan I know was always sweet, kind and generous," and added, "She was always demanding, but never rude."
