Meghan’s tearful TV interview deemed 'tone-deaf and miserably self-indulgent' by palace insiders, claims book
A new book titled 'Battle of Brothers' has claimed that palace insiders thought that Meghan Markle's tearful TV interview had been 'tone-deaf' and 'miserably self-indulgent'.
The book looks into Prince Harry and Prince William's relationship which has allegedly become "utterly broken" with the brothers falling apart due to Prince Harry's 'disrespect'. Back in 2019, Harry and Meghan had gone on a tour of Africa and given an interview with ITV's Tom Bradby.
In the documentary, Meghan had spoken about how she was adjusting to life in the palace. In the excerpt serialized by Daily Mail, the author Robert Lacey had shared, "But then to start emoting against the backdrop of one of the most blighted corners of the planet to complain about the distressing problems you are experiencing adjusting to life inside a palace — Meghan’s litany of grievance had suggested indifference bordering on contempt for the true concerns of the human beings among whom she had been smiling."
"It also demonstrated a bizarre tone-deafness as to how miserably self-indulgent her self-pity must appear," Lacey added. "This was unquestionably the view of a powerful constituency inside Buckingham Palace, headed by the Queen’s Private Secretary, Sir Edward Young."
According to the author of the book, the falling out of the brothers could cause immense damage to the royal family. Lacey is also of the opinion that the brothers' special bond was shattered by the way the Sussexes had gone about 'Megxit'.
Earlier this year in January, Harry and Meghan had decided to take a step back as senior members of the royal family and had announced their desire to be financially independent. Senior members of the royal family had seen 'Megxit' as a huge mark of disrespect especially since Harry had put his plans out on his website and Instagram before discussing it with the Queen.
Palace insiders have revealed that Harry's older brother Prince William was beyond shocked at Harry's decision to put aside his duty and service to the crown and was outraged at how the Queen had been backed into a corner over the same.
According to The Sun, the two brothers have barely spoken to each other over the past few months. Sources say that they are fearful of how the two will interact at the unveiling of a statue dedicated to their late mother, Princess Diana, at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday next July.
A source shared, "Harry hadn’t even had a meeting with the Queen to talk through their plans before announcing it to the world. The monarchy is an institution based on hierarchy and respect — something drummed into those boys growing up."
"What Harry did drove a horse and cart through royal protocol — putting their plans on Instagram and their website first. There was a moment in January when it could have been sorted out amicably. But this was a betrayal of his grandmother that William has struggled to understand, and their relationship remains strained."
"William loves his brother deeply. This is why it is so hurtful to him," the source added. The book also speaks about how the family had been dismayed with the couple's attempts to cash in on their royal titles.
