Although Meghan Markle has been keeping a pretty low profile in Canada after announcing that she and her husband will be stepping down as senior members of the royal family, she did show up at a women’s center in a down-trodden neighborhood in Vancouver on Tuesday, January 15, in what was her first public appearance since her departure from the United Kingdom.

In a photo posted by the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, on their Facebook page, the mother-of-one could be seen smiling as she posed with the women there. “Look who we had tea with today!” the caption said. “The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, visited us today to discuss issues affecting women in the community.”

Meghan and Harry enjoyed an extended vacation over the Christmas holidays in Canada, before flying back to the U.K. after the start of the New Year. However, after their visit to the Canada House in London, they released the following statement on Instagram, which sent the royal family as well as the British people into an immediate meltdown.

"After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year is starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” they jointly wrote in the Jan. 8 statement. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

While the Duke of Sussex stayed back in his homeland to manage the fallout from the couple's decision, Meghan returned to Canada, to tend to their infant son, Archie, who had been left with their nanny while the couple was away. Ever since, she has chosen to stay under the radar, only spotted a few times driving their Range Rover on the streets of Vancouver Island.

A source told E! News recently that Meghan “mostly stays at home but ventures out around mid-day just to get out." A security detail follows her around whenever she decides to step out. Her choice to stay indoors might also have something to do with the fact that the current weather in Vancouver is cold and rainy. One of the times she was spotted driving around the town, she was headed to the airport. “She has gone for a drive around town and to pick up someone at the airport that looked like her mom,” the source said.

In the past weekend, before Monday’s historic Megxit summit, which included Harry, Princes William and Charles and the Queen, Meghan was spotted running errands in the area, ending up at one point in “a drug-store parking lot."

Harry is reportedly supposed to reunite with his wife and son in Canada at the end of the week.
