LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The beginning of 'Mayor Of Kingstown' Season 2 on Paramount+ takes place sometime after the events of the end of Season 1, and the gap between the two seasons is significantly influenced by the prison riot in Episode 10 of Season 1 of the series. The events of Season 1, Episode 9 quickly opened the door for a prison uprising and radically altered the delicate balance that the 'Mayor of Kingstown' had maintained between the gangs inside and outside the prison in Season 1.

Fans of the series can also take solace in the fact that the second season of Kingstown kicks off just as lead actor Jeremy Renner is making progress in his recovery from the horrific snowplow accident that left him in a serious condition not long after the year 2023 begins.

'Mayor of Kingstown': Mike McLusky vows to look out for Bunny's cousin Hakim

Mike's (Jeremy Renner) main goal in the first season of 'Mayor Of Kingstown' was to maintain the hard-won peace between the gangs, especially after he made the decision to take over his brother Mitch's position in the community. While in Season 1 Mike made sure that the demands of the opposing groups in Kingstown were met all the time, in Season 2 the events in Mike's life and that of the McLuskys (Diane Wiest) are presented against a more chaotic and novel backdrop due to the open struggle between all the parties.

Time jump between the two seasons

Based on Mike's statement to Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa), "I remember this rooftop being Blood turf just one ****ing week ago," the time gap between Seasons 1 and 2 of 'Mayor of Kingstown' seems to have been at least a week. Given this, it is obvious that the unrest and lingering effects of the prison riot lasted for at least a week. Other evidence, such as the number of cases changed in Kingstown, also points to a one-week time lapse. Considering the time it takes to set up these scenes, and the fact that Miriam (Dianne Wiest) is teaching her class of prisoners in a new location where armored officers are present, it seems likely that the events of the first season finale of 'The Mayor of Kingstown' took place more than a week ago. The less strained relationship between Iris and Mike, Kyle's job change, and Kareem's reinstatement at the jail suggest that at least a week has passed.

Why is the time jump so short?

The time jump between Seasons 1 and 2 couldn't have lasted more than a few weeks to fully portray the impact of the prison riots on the protagonists and the mayor of Kingstown. It would have been far less fascinating to show what happened in the city months after the dust settled, as the riots and the way they were put down severely upset all opposing factions in Kingstown. Instead, a smaller time gap between Seasons 1 and 2 of 'Mayor Of Kingstown' offers the crime drama's protagonists a completely different setting and new difficulties that they couldn't overcome in season 1
