Inside the beginning of Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis' friendship
In his 2022 memoir, Perry recalled his first encounter with Willis before they worked together in the 2000 film 'The Whole Nine Yards.'
He said that the 'Tears of the Sun' actor left him a hilarious message on his answering machine.
"Matthew, this is Bruce Willis. Call me back, or I’ll burn your house down and break both your knees and arms and you’ll be left with just the stubs for hands and feet for the rest of your life," Willis said.

"I figured this was a call I should probably return," Perry said.
They then met at 'Ago', an Italian restaurant in Hollywood days after the amusing message. In Perry's eyes, Willis "did not disappoint" and "oozed A-list."
At the time, Perry went to the "massive house" of Willis who was newly-separated from Demi Moore and he hit "golf balls into the San Fernando Valley below" with "drinks in hand."
"We had begun a friendship, one in which we drank together and made each other laugh and complimented each other’s swings," the 'Fools Rush In' actor said.

"Nothing seemed to bother Bruce, no one said no to him. This was, indeed, the A-leagues," he added.
Matthew Perry described Bruce Willis as a 'good-hearted man'
In February 2022, Willis' family revealed to the world that the actor was quitting his acting career following his dementia diagnosis.
The news of the actor's battle with dementia came months before Perry’s memoir release on November 1, 2022.

Perry then wished his friend Willis the best from afar as they had not been in contact for a long time.
"Sometimes, at the end of the night, when the sun was just about to come up and everyone else had gone, and the party was over, Bruce and I would just sit and talk," the '17 Again' actor wrote in his book.
"That’s when I saw the real Bruce Willis — a good-hearted man, a caring man, selfless. A wonderful parent. And a wonderful actor. And most important, a good guy," Perry said at the time.

"And if he wanted me to be, I would be his friend for life. But as is the way with so many of these things, our paths rarely crossed after that. I, of course, pray for him every night now," added Perry who died at the age of 54 on October 28.
