Film students now have a very appealing reason to start a course at the University of Texas, Austin given that Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey will be joining the faculty.

McConaughey will be teaching a 'Script to Screen' film production class at the Moody College of Communication. He had previously co-taught a course at the university as a guest along with filmmaker and faculty member Scott Rice.

McConaughey had earned a film degree in 1993 from the same university.

As per a press release from the university, McConaughey said that this class was one that he wished he had when he attended film school. "Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them," McConaughey shared.

"Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art―no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus," he said while speaking about the structure of the course.

The school further revealed that the fall 2019 class will be covering films like The Gentlemen (opening in January) and Mud (2013).

A student who took his co-taught class in 2016 had rated him five stars on 'Rate My Professors'. In addition to the students at Moody College who are definitely excited to be taught by McConaughey, many Twitter users expressed their desire to attend the course. One fan wrote on Twitter, "Imagine walking into film class at UT and Matthew McConaughey comes in saying “Alright, alright, alright. Let’s get this class started." Another added, "Matthew McConaughey is now a professor at the University of Texas, so naturally I’m quitting grad school and switching my major from nursing to film."

McConaughey has appeared in over 50 films which include the likes of 'Dazed and Confused', 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and 'Dallas Buyers Club'. Even before McConaughey decided to be a professor, he . was a regular on campus and would often appear at football and basketball games. Last year, he was named the 'Minister of Culture' for the school's upcoming basketball and events arena.
