'Sad but inevitable': Marvel fans upset as Kevin Feige douses last hopes of Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man returning to MCU
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Marvel boss Kevin Feige doused the last hope of Robert Downey Jr's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after he announced that RDJ's character Tony Stark is gone and the studio is not thinking of reviving him.
As 'Vanity Fair' profiled the 'Oppenheimer' actor recently, they interviewed Feige regarding Downey Jr's involvement in the Marvel cinematic universe- from the initial journey of the character of Iron Man to the fan-favorite superhero getting written off in the 2019 mega blockbuster 'Endgame'.
When Feige was asked about the return of the actor who initiated the 'Infinity Saga' of the MCU, Feige said, "We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again," referring to Tony Stark's tear-jerking death in the movie.
He continued, "We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way."
Even the 'Endgame' director Joe Russo confirmed RDJ would not don the suit and said, "We’d already said tearful goodbyes on the last day of shooting. Everybody had moved on emotionally. We promised him it would be the last time we made him do it - ever," per TMZ.
'Marvel will continue to go downhill then'
Marvel fans naturally did not take the news joyously, with many of them saying they are already in the process of digesting the inevitable.
One of the fans said, "Sad but inevitable."
Another fan mourned, "Well, ain't that a kick in the teeth? Good ol' Iron Man hanging up his suit, huh? Guess everyone need their coffee break at some point, right? Will Marvel still shine without his charisma? Just sayin', things might turn real vanilla without him. #SuitNoMore."

A user said, "I get it, his final sacrifice was beautiful, so it would be hard to top it. However, with multiverse being now established, it's possible to have both: RDJ being a part of MCU once again and this particular story of Tony Stark remaining untouched."

Another dejected fan stated, "Marvel will continue to go downhill then."
One fan remarked in a pragmatic manner, "Whoever made the decision, it was the right one. As much as I enjoyed his portrayal of Tony Stark, RDJ aged out of the part."

What did Robert Downey Jr say about his return to MCU?
One of the six stalwarts of the 'Infinity Saga' of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr left the franchise after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ showed the demise of Tony Stark.
While RDJ has never closed the door of his return to the universe, he has given a condition to facilitate his return.
During an interview with Joe Rogan in 2020, the ‘Iron Man’ star said in plain words he would consider returning given, “There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious.”
However, he also said during that time that he wanted to explore different aspects of his thespian abilities. He said, "But the other thing is, I wanna do other stuff,” as per Screen Rant.
