'Martin' star Tisha Campbell 'shocked' over former co-star Martin Lawrence's jibe at her sexual harassment claims
Tisha Campbell spoke about her 'Martin' co-star Martin Lawrence's recent comments on her lawsuit. The incident dates back to 1997 when she suddenly quit the sitcom and filed a lawsuit against Lawrence accusing him of sexual harassment. The actor voiced her thoughts after joining Global's 'The Talk' on January 16.
In a GQ interview, Lawrence had spoken about the lawsuit and alleged that it was the reason the sitcom was canceled.
"Well, how can I say this? It just was time to end," he told the magazine. "Let's just put it that way. It was just, at that time, there was some, um, there were some things that were being said." When the interviewer asked if it was about Campbell's suit, the 'Bad Boys' star affirmed saying, "Yeah. yeah."
He also said: "None of that was true" and added "it was all a lot of bullsh*t".
On her part, Campbell said the confidentiality agreement wouldn't let her delve into the details. "But what I can say is… I was actually kind of shocked," she said.
"I hit him up. He called me within a minute… He was like, 'Don't read into what it is, there's a lot of people that's trying to bring up the past, and trying to make it news today. But, you know T, we're good. I love you. I love your family.'"
She also added: "Again, I'm not going to go into details, because I want to respect his privacy and I want to respect mine. But I will say, by the end of it, it was nothing but laughter and healing. And I got a chance to experience that. And I'm so glad that we're in a good place right now."
'Martin' had a stellar run for five seasons from 1992-97.
'The Talk' airs weekdays at 2 pm ET/PT on Global.
