'Married at First Sight' Season 10 brings 5 couples on board, set to premiere on New Year's Day
Lifetime's 'Married At First Sight' is all set to return with its milestone Season 10. In a first and to mark the major event, the makers have decided to mega-size the episodes to two hours. What's more, this season as many as five couples will be a part of 'MAFS' (again, a first) as they navigate through the many challenges that marriages have to offer.
Release date
'MAFS' Season 10 premieres on January 1, Wednesday, on Lifetime at 8/7c.
Plot
Set in Washington DC, the new season will feature five couples and episodes that'll focus on their journeys — from wedding, honeymoon, to analyzing complicated aspects of relationships. The showrunners have tried to shuffle around a few things to spice it up a tad, but what remains unchanged is the basic concept that these couples are all strangers to begin with, who are ready for love and commitment, the kind that leads to the aisle.
Cast
Katie & Derek
Virginia-raised Katie grew up as a "child of divorce," which has sort of aided her with clarity about life and relationships. She knows what she wants from a relationship/ marriage and that is a rarity. Her pair, Derek, is a Maryland guy who belongs to a military family. As a kid, he was taught the significance of having a family, which has had a direct impact on his thoughts about marriage.
Jessica & Austin
Even after decades, both Jessica and Austin's parents' marriages are going strong. While the lady looks forward to finding her Mr Charming soon and hoping that together, they can mimic her parents' marriage of over 35 years, Austin is ready to walk down the aisle, but only when he finds his Ms Right.
Taylor and Brandon
This could be an interesting pair, especially because Taylor is coming from a long-term relationship that ended last year. Raised in Maryland with her mother, Taylor is looking to explore further, find herself again. Brandon, a Washington DC kid, is ready to meet his "only one" and hopes to get hitched to the one who is equally invested in the idea of having a family.
Mindy and Zach
Maryland-raised Mindy's parents divorced when she was just 10 years old, but that didn't change her love for love. Even though she has had her share of bad endings with wrong guys over the years, Mindy is finally ready to meet her match and have a fairytale ending. Georgia boy Zach's parents divorced and each remarried other people, but that didn't stop him from believing in the value of being with a family and love.
Meka and Michael
Maryland lady Meka grew up in a single-parent home, where her mother worked all the time. She has had a tough time finding healthy relationships but is now all set and ready to find her knight in shining armor. Meanwhile, Michael, raised in Washington DC, has always been ready for marriage. He has been waiting for the right one, that's all.
Sociology professor Dr Pepper Schwartz, psychotherapist Dr Viviana Coles and Pastor Calvin Roberson have been brought on board as experts.
Showrunners
'MAFS' is produced by Kinetic Content with executive producers Chris Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Ally Simpson, Jason Sands, Kelly Montalvo and Gena McCarthy as part of the team.
