Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden arrested on domestic violence charges, bandmates ‘deeply devastated’

American pop-rock and funk-pop band Maroon 5’s bassist Mickey Madden was reportedly arrested on the afternoon of Saturday, June 27, in Los Angeles following an allegation of domestic violence.

41-year-old Madden is not married, according to reports, and the identity of the alleged victim has not been disclosed as of yet. The Los Angeles Police Department, however, confirmed to Page Six that the charge against Madden is California penal code 273.5(a), which means that someone willfully inflicted a “traumatic” injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

Reportedly, Madden posted bail at $50,000. If convicted he faces up to six years in prison and a $6,000 fine.

A spokesperson for Maroon 5 told the media, “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”

This is not Madden’s first trouble with the law. In 2016, Madden was arrested for possession of cocaine. Reportedly, Madden accepted a conditional dismissal offer in exchange for one day of community service.

Madden was reportedly with James 'Bingo' Gubelmann, an ex-boyfriend of Ivanka Trump, outside a bar in New York when police claimed they saw Madden hand him a vial of drugs. At the time, Madden's lawyer said that it was Gubelmann who had the cocaine all along and that his client never even touched the vial. “He was purely innocent. He didn't possess any narcotics. The individual he was with did but he didn't,” he said.

Madden, along with fellow Brentwood School attendees, Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, and drummer Ryan Dusick first came together as Kara's Flowers in 1994. After guitarist James Valentine came into the mix, the band renamed itself Maroon 5. The band has achieved international fame and popularity with instant hits like ‘Sugar’, ‘Moves Like Jagger’, ‘Payphone’, and ‘Girls Like You’.

At present, the band consists of Levine as the lead vocalist and frontman, Carmichael on the keyboards and rhythm guitar, Madden on bass, Valentine as the lead guitarist, Matt Flynn on drums, keyboardist PJ Morton, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Farrar.
