Marlon Brando wondered ‘Who am I going to f*ck today?' every morning and had no qualms about sleeping with either sex
Marlon Brando is credited with revolutionizing the art of acting, but had a troubled personal life right till his death in 2004. A new biography on the late legend, 'The Contender: The Story Of Marlon Brando’ by author William J Mann, reveals some interesting details about the actor’s life.
While the playboy legacy of 'The Godfather’ actor has been very well documented, Mann's book throws light on his obsession with sex and explores the childhood trauma that might explain his obsession. In his book, Mann claims that Brando's began his days with a particular thought which pretty much summed up his attitude in life. “When I awake in the morning, the first thing I think about is, ‘Who am I going to f*ck today’?"
The book delves deep into his womanizing ways and names a string of women and men had affairs with. A few of the names from the list might surprise you - Rita Moreno, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Pryor, and Quincy Jones, amongst several others.
The book says that the famous actor met actress Moreno on the 20th Century Fox lot, and the actress instantly found him “swaggeringly irresistible”. Mann continues, “She was his type – dark, vibrant, earthy, sensual and they quickly became lovers.” The book also reveals Moreno’s thoughts. “To say that he was a great lover," Moreno revealed, "sensual, generous, delightfully inventive – would be gravely understating what he did not only to my body but for my soul”.
Daily Mail reports that according to several sources Brando and Marilyn had a romance in 1955 following her divorce from Joe DiMaggio and before her marriage to Arthur Miller in December of that year.
"Monroe was hardly Marlon’s type but she had an earthy sense of humor that he would have liked," writes Mann.
Marlon, who was popularly known as Bud, exuded sexuality which drew both men and women towards him. During his time at the Shattuck Military School, the actor was reported to have slept with several men on campus. If you thought the actor would be ashamed or guilty of his sexuality, then you couldn’t be more wrong. According to the biography, “He wasn't a guilt-ridden homosexual but utterly at ease with sleeping either sex.”
After his death, comedian Richard Pryor’s widow revealed that Brando had an affair with her husband. "It was the 70s! Drugs were still good, especially quaaludes. If you did enough cocaine, you’d f*ck a radiator and send it flowers in the morning," Pryor’s widow, Jennifer Lee, told TMZ.
The book places the blame on Brando's adult hijinks on his father, Marlon Brando Sr, who gave him no love and was "a card-carrying pr*ck, a silent, brooding, angry man," Mann writes. According to the book, Brando never recovered from the trauma created by his father who beat him and his mother.
Marlon Brando Sr. "was the golem that stomped across the geography of my psyche," Mann quotes Brando.
