Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban generated quite the buzz on Twitter after he decided to award one of his long-playing stars, JJ Barea. The franchise, according to ESPN, looked ahead in making the move when they signed the veteran to a one-year deal worth his minimum of $2.6M last month.

The latest tweet came from Tim McMahon who wrote: "Sources: Mavs plan to release J.J. Barea on Thursday. Mark Cuban knew this move was likely when Barea signed a 1-year, $2.6M deal last week but wanted to reward him for his impact over 11 years with Mavs. Barea, 36, still hopes to play in NBA this season." Not just did this see Cuban earn massive respect from fans, but it also had readers wondering just how rich Cuban is. That he started off by selling garbage bags door to door is a well-documented story.

Cuban's net worth is estimated to be $4.5B, according to the latest reports. With ownership of the Mavs, Magnolia Pictures, Landmark Theaters, and is chairman of HDNet, an HDTV Cable Network, the 62-year-old is ranked #177 on the 2020 Forbes 400 list. Prior to owning the Mavs in January 2000, he co-founded Broadcast.com, a multimedia and streaming platform that she sold to Yahoo! for a staggering $5.7B. Cuban also made headlines as one of the main "shark" investors on the ABC reality television series, 'Shark Tank'.

The move he made with regard to Barea won hearts on social media. "Mark Cuban (@mcuban) once again shows he’s a man with great morals and integrity," read one of the tweets.

"Mark Cuban built different man - a true inspiration for me, a man who is about his business, making that money BUT a man who is about people first."

Some felt he was the best person to play for. "Mark Cuban gotta be one of the best guys to play for. Dude takes care of his people."

The gratitude toward Barea comes due to the massive contribution to the Mavs. And while he may not have played a great deal last season with just 29 appearances following a ruptured Achilles tendon, he was looked at as a leader mentoring their upcoming star, Luka Doncic.

Barea's career is best known for his performance against the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals. With Dallas at a 2-1 deficit in the series, Carlisle made a surprise adjustment to start Barea alongside Jason Kidd. Barea averaged 13.3 points and 4.7 points as the Mavs won the next three games to clinch the franchise's first championship. He is fifth in the Mavs history with 537 appearances.
