PATTAYA, THAILAND: A Hong Kong tourist survived a mid-air bungee jump mishap when he plunged into a river in Thailand during a frightening 10-story leap. Mike was out with his friend in Pattaya in February when the heartstopping incident occurred. Fortunately, landing in the water lessened the impact of his fall.

In the chilling footage shared by a local news channel HK01, Mike can be seen prepping for the 30-meter leap. Then he was led to the edge while the bungee cord was attached to his ankles, but what happened next stunned the witnesses. The footage shows Mike with his arms outstretched as he plunged toward the water. As the visitor fell quickly into the water from a height of about 5 meters, he became unconscious on impact, reports Yahoo News.

Mike's horrific Injuries

After losing consciousness and plunging to the lake's bottom, Mike was able to swim to safety, but not before sustaining damage to his chest, lungs, and left side of his body. Pictures obtained by HK01 show the wounded Mike being pulled out of the water before being transported to hospital, but he was released soon after after doctors apparently stated he was "fine."

Mike claimed to the local media that his armpit sustained the worst damage from the fall, was "oozing blood," and was missing a layer of flesh. He also had a bruised and swollen left knee, as well as a left eye, and although none of these injuries required surgery, the impact's excruciating pain left him feeling lightheaded.

Mike is seeks compensation from bungee jumping park

Things started to go south when he went back to Honkong for treatment. There, it was discovered that Mike had a lung infection via a CT scan, MRI, and X-ray. He thinks he probably got it after inadvertently ingesting contaminated lake water. His injuries necessitated a three-night hospital stay in Hong Kong.

Mike is now seeking compensation from Thailand's bungee jumping park for his injuries, which cost him a whopping $9,500 in medical bills. However, when he asked the bungee jumping park to cover the costs, he was stunned by their response. According to reports, the park only reimbursed him $57 for his ticket and paid $235 towards his immediate medical expenses. Fortunately, his travel insurance covered the rest of the expenses.
