'Keep at it!' Man gets support for refusing pregnant wife's absurd demand to name son Charles Manson
According to an anonymous Redditor, his grief-stricken pregnant wife wants to name her child Charles, in memory of her deceased brother. If this is the case, the child's name would be the same name as that of a convicted murderer from the 1960s. Reddit user ThrowRA_Names12 expressed his concern about his child bearing the same name as notorious cult leader and convicted murderer Charles Manson on the subreddit 'Am I the A**hole.'
The Redditor explained in his anonymous post that his wife Melissa, 31, who is eight months pregnant with their baby, legally adopted his last name when they got married four years ago. "Unfortunately, our last name is Manson. As in Charles Manson," he mentions. "It really sucks but it's what I have. Neither of us [has] ever had a problem with that until now."

Internet split as husband says partner 'PRIVILEGED to be stay-at-home wife'
Why did Melissa want to name her baby Charles?
The husband has revealed in his post that his wife Melissa had recently lost her brother, who had died abruptly from a heart attack at the age of 35. "We were both shocked and [devastated]. He was a great man who was always healthy, and we were very close to him. Nobody saw it coming. He left behind his wife and three kids," he mentioned. "Melissa now wants to name our son after her brother."
Why does the husband object to naming child Charles?
Melissa's husband said that if her brother's name wasn't Charles, he wouldn't object to the tribute. Charles Manson, real name Charles Milles Maddox, spent more than 40 years in prison after commanding his Manson Family cult followers to go on a homicidal two-day spree in 1969. His followers murdered seven people during the rampage: married couple Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, youngster Steven Parent, pregnant actress Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, hairstylist Jay Sebring, writer Wojciech Frykowski, and hairstylist Wojciech Frykowski, as per Daily Mail.
The killings were committed in affluent, largely white districts of Los Angeles in order to blame African Americans for the crimes and incite what he called a 'Helter Skelter' race war. In addition, Manson was later found guilty of the murders of actor Donald "Shorty" Shea and musician Gary Hinman. He died in a prison in 2017 at the age of 83.
'So, should I let this go?'
The Reddit user wrote in his post that he had a fight with his wife over the issue of naming their child Charles Manson because of the links with the homicidal cult leader. "I told her I was not okay with naming our child Charles Manson, and she insisted that nobody would notice or care. She is calling me an a**hole for disrespecting her brother like that," he stated. "So, should I let this go and just name our son after a guy who has been so important in Melissa's life?' he questioned. "I really do not want our kid to have to go through life having the same name as a serial killer. Imagine how hard it would be to get a job."
'Keep at it!'
Commenters were aghast insisting that the man cannot let his wife name their son Charles Manson because the boy will inevitably face bullying. A user wrote, "I agree, using Charles as a middle name is risky, because if he ever gets full named at school or whatever it still sounds bad “Harold Charles Manson” for example 😬 OP, your wife is grieving, so it’s hard for her to make decisions like this without that coming into it. But you’re truly protecting your son from a lot of bullying, so keep at it!" Another user commented, "Yea I wouldn't want to go through customs with that passport."
'He'll be bullied relentlessly'
The overwhelming majority of respondents urged the guy to maintain his composure, warning that people would make the link and their child would be "bullied relentlessly." A user said, "Don't name your kid Charles Manson. He'll be bullied relentlessly. But you could use it as a middle name. And wouldn't it be nicer to leave his name for his kids to use for future grandkids?" A user mentioned, "Imagine any school event where they say your full name he is going to be stared at. There are going to be whispers about if OP and his wife are members of Charles Manson's cult (there are still people who believe his bs)." "I can't imagine trying to get a job with the name of a famous serial killer," a user noted. Another user claimed, "Idk why wife thinks ppl won’t notice the name Charles Manson…. They’re 100% gonna notice it for sure." Another person said, "You are naming a human being not a walking memorial”. This! OP your wife needs to hear this."
