Chaos engulfs Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital as patient shoots himself dead while staying for treatment

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: A man has died after he fatally shot himself inside a Brooklyn hospital, authorities said. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, December 22, at Mount Sinai Brooklyn Hospital on Kings Highway in East Midwood. The hospital was alarmed after gunfire erupted around 6:15 pm. 

The man was a patient at the hospital and was admitted for treatment of an unspecified issue. Subsequently, the man pulled the trigger on himself and killed himswlf by suicide on the third floor of the hospital, according to hospital staff. He was treated for his gunshot wound but succumbed to his injuries 35 minutes later, police said.

There was an emergency evacuation and a complete lockdown after the terrorizing incident but shortly, patients were eventually readmitted, staff said. Law enforcement noted that the gun was recovered at the scene. The identity of the deceased man remains unknown. Furthermore, the hospital provided no additional information on the shooting or the victim. “We are saddened to learn of the tragic shooting incident at Mount Sinai Brooklyn,” a hospital spokesperson said in a statement, according to Yahoo. “There is no current threat at Mount Sinai Brooklyn,” the statement added.  

“We’re working closely with authorities who are actively investigating this matter and are very grateful for the quick response of our security team and the authorities to ensure the safety of our patients and staff,” the statement said. An investigation is on, said police.

In another suicide incident, an unidentified man who appeared to be in his 50s reportedly jumped from the 12th-floor balcony of the upscale Manhattan, NYC building 200 Central Park South, close to Seventh Avenue. MEAWW reported the incident took place on Tuesday, October 25, and the was found with "injuries typical of a fall from an elevated location," according to the authorities, and was pronounced dead at the spot. In Suicide is the 12th-leading cause of death in the United States, reported America's Health Rankings. Mental health and substance use disorders are the most significant risk factors contributing to suicidal behaviors, reported the source.
