MEAWW recently reported the New York City police discovered a man inside the trash compactor on Friday, August 12, 2022, in Brooklyn. He had injuries consistent with being "crushed" by the compactor machine. Moments earlier, as a lady and another guy watched, a man stepped into a garbage hole and tumbled to his death at Brooklyn's Medgar Evers Homes, according to security video footage. Later, the mutilated body of the unnamed individual was discovered at the bottom of the chute. 15 minutes had passed since his death when his body was found. The CCTV film contains no evidence that any keys were thrown into the pit.
Before opening the garbage chute's hatch and sliding half of his body inside, the man can be seen conversing with another man. Then, as a woman enters the group, he looks to be sitting on the open hatch. In what turned out to be the man's final moments, the footage shows her holding the hatch's bottom as if to prevent him from falling from his seat. He then appears to sit on the trash pit's edge before opting to lay down on the hatch, which is being held down by the woman, to plunge into the depths. Although the NYPD has not commented on the incident, neighbors said the man was attempting to retrieve his keys when he entered the trash chute.
Authorities at that time were investigating if the victim's death was caused by the fall itself or whether he accidentally entered the compactor area of the dumpster, where he was later discovered to be deformed. Before the hatch is closed and his body is fully enclosed in the chute, the man and the other man carry on their conversation. Then, using their phones as sources of light, the woman and the other man lean inside the trash can to check on their companion. The woman then grabs hold of the other man's lower body to keep him from falling in while he enters the chute with his two arms and head.
