88-year-old man sparks panic at hospital with 108-yr-old WWI explosive lodged in his rectum!
TOULON, FRANCE: A french hospital had to be partially evacuated after an unusual item stuck inside a person sparked a bomb scare. Doctors in the Hospital Sainte Musse in Toulon were dismayed when a senior citizen arrived with a World War I artillery shell lodged in his rectum on Saturday, December 17.
“An emergency occurred from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening that required the intervention of bomb disposal personnel, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies as well as the diversion of incoming emergencies,” a hospital spokesperson stated after the 88-year-old man visited the institution to have the antique explosive removed. “We had to manage the risk in a reactive framework,” the rep added. “When in doubt, we took all the precautions,” they said, as reported by New York Post.

Bomb disposal experts arrived on the scene to determine the level of danger and assured the hospital there was little possibility the shell would explode inside the man, adding that the item was in fact a World War I artillery shell. “They reassured us by telling us that it was a collector’s item from the First World War, used by the French military,” the hospital stated.
Doctors then proceeded to remove the object lodged inside the man. X-ray noted the item measured almost 8 inches long and more than 2 inches wide, according to the French publication Var-matin. It was later revealed the man inserted the item up his anus for sexual pleasure. Explaining the situation, a doctor said it wasn't uncommon for people to present with unusual objects inside them but added he had never seen an explosive inside someone.
“An apple, a mango or even a can of shaving foam, we are used to finding unusual objects inserted where they shouldn’t be,” one doctor declared. “But a shell? Never!” The medical team was forced to take the elderly man into surgery and cut open his abdomen to remove the relic. The operation was successful and the unidentified senior citizen is now in “good health,” said the hospital. The 88-year-old man is expected to make a full recovery from the surgery.
