NEVADA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA: Dustin Procita, a northern Californian resident was left aghast after his home was totally destroyed by what he claims was a meteorite hit. The man said that he believes it was a meteor that directly fell on his property, instantly burning it down, and also killing one of his dogs. It is being reported that several people across the area saw something like a "bright flaming ball" in Nevada County on Friday night, November 4, while the investigation is on.

Procita said to KCRA, “I heard a big bang. I started to smell smoke. I went onto my porch and it was completely engulfed in flames.” Interestingly, the odds of being hit by a meteor is one in four trillion, and in a bizarre comparison, it is said that the chances are less than the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, which is one in 292.3 million. Presently, the Powerball jackpot is estimated at around a mindboggling $1.9 billion, set to for Monday, November 7, as its next draw, reported the Daily Mail.

The local fire department is investigating the incident, and most likely NASA and US Air Force will be brought in too. Procita added, “I've always watched meteor showers and stuff as a kid, but I definitely didn't look forward to them landing in my yard or through my roof. I did not see what it was, but from everybody I talked to – was a flaming ball falling from the sky, landed in that general area.” The fire was finally brought under control after hours of struggle by the Penn Valley Fire Department and CAL Fire.

Captain Josh Miller reacted, “Meteorite, asteroid – one of those two, I had one individual tell me about it first and like, okay, I'll put that in the back of my mind. But then more people – two, three or four more started coming in and talking about it."

“I’ve been an investigator for 12 years and in the fire service for 25. I’ve never been to a fire that was caused by a meteor. But at this point, because our investigation isn’t done, I can’t rule that out as a possibility. They have struck homes throughout the world in the past,” said Fire Captain Clayton Thomas.

While looking at the footage of "fireball" coming down from the night sky, recorded by one of the residents in the area, Procita said, "Oh wow, looks like a flaming basketball coming out of this sky. Definitely feel very lucky that it was 30 feet away from me and not five.”
