Malia Obama WOWS in a red tank top and black shorts as she grabs dinner with pals in Santa Monica
Malia Obama oozed California cool as she caught an early dinner with pals in Santa Monica on Saturday, June 4, as she and her sister Sasha embrace their new life on the West Coast.
Malia, 23, who is currently writing for Donald Glover's upcoming Amazon project, 'Hive,' was spotted with a group of friends at Manchego, a cozy Spanish tapas restaurant located just blocks from the shoreline. The former First Daughter flaunted her toned body in a fitted red tank that she wore tucked into high-waisted black shorts. She donned a long-sleeve maroon shrug on top and completed the look with a silver chain necklace, an orange handbag, and black hiking boots coupled with white ankle-length socks.

Malia didn't appear to put on makeup for the outing, while her braided, rust-colored hair cascaded down in her back in loose waves. She chatted with her friends as they were seated in front of the restaurant. Photos from the scene showed the table filled with glasses, some of them filled with sangria. The former First Daughter left the restaurant after a while, with her keys and her cellphone in her hand. She was also snapped walking with her arm around one of her pals. According to the Daily Mail, the screenwriter had a busy weekend in Los Angeles, after she was also seen dining with friends on Friday at Crossroads Kitchen -- a coveted vegan restaurant in West Hollywood. Malia moved to the city after landing a lucrative gig on Donald Glover's upcoming show.
Glover, popularly known by his stage name Childish Gambino, recently revealed that he had roped in former President Barack Obama's older daughter to work on his latest project. "She’s just like, an amazingly talented person," 38-year-old Glover told Vanity Fair of Malia while attending the season three premiere of 'Atlanta'. "She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard," he added. Glover's upcoming Amazon series 'Hive' is reportedly about a "Beyoncé-type character."
Malia, who graduated from college last year, previously interned on Lena Dunham's HBO series 'Girls' in 2015 and at The Weinstein Company in 2017. Glover -- who did not reveal how Malia landed her latest job -- also recruited his younger brother Stephen Glover to write for the upcoming project. The multihyphenate said they were interested in "hearing her stories and having her work with them," suggesting they may have approached Malia about the position.
Glover said he believes the former First Daughter has a promising future in the industry. "I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon," he told the publication, adding, "Her writing style is great." Meanwhile, she also earned praise from Stephen, who lauded her work ethic and ideation, adding that they were happy to have her on the team because of her fresh perspective.
