'Making The Cut': Was Sander Bos's designs too young and fun for the 'old' judges? Fans think so
Sander Bos was shown the exit doors after he showed his 12-14 look collection at New York for the pop-up store challenge. The Belgian designer called it 'House of Bos' and designed his store to fit the name. It featured a wooden framework of that of a house that housed holographic panels covering the fitting rooms. It was very psychedelic and for sure, an interesting twist to any regular store.
What made it more appealing was the tailors that he decided on keeping in stand-by at the store. The idea was to have customers shop, get tailored and leave the shop happy. The judges — Heidi Klum, Nicole Richie, Naomi Campbell, Joseph Altuzarra and Chiara Ferragni — thought it was a unique idea and has helped the designer stand out.
But Nicole also thought that the collection wasn't an authentic representative of Sander's design aesthetic. He shifted gears for this one and left her totally confused.
Heidi and Naomi too shared similar sentiments but they took it in a more positive way, saying Sander taking a completely different route shows the wide range he has to offer. On the other hand, the German supermodel opined that he sort of showed fast-fashion, something the young crowd would appreciate and wear.
However, Joseph made it clear that even though having in-store tailors was a genius idea what fell short was the kind of clothing they were tailoring. The designer thought Sanders pieces were simple T-shirts and any kind of tailoring on them isn't true tailoring.
Meanwhile, fans think the judges on the show were too old to understand Sander's vision. "They kicked off Sanders because he's young and they're old. His clothing isn't juvenile, it's accessible; which is exactly what you want if you're going to invest 1 million dollars into a brand, you imbeciles. #makingthecut," a viewer expressed, while another shared: "Making the Cut judges are way too old to appreciate the best designer! How could they cut Sander! #oldfartjudges #makingthecut @heidiklum @NaomiCampbell."
"Sander’s aesthetic was too young, hip, and fresh for these old judges #MakingTheCut," a user tweeted. "Sander Bos is the future of fashion. And they eliminated him off the finale? WTF! #MakingTheCut," another pointed out.
"Jonny over Sanders? That was a push from Amazon. You know Amazon is more for fast fashion than tailored looks, and they were not having Sanders' vision on that. I'm just so disappointed. #makingthecut," a fan tweeted.
