Netflix drops major 'The Witcher' Season 5 release announcement
In what comes as exciting news for 'The Witcher' fans, Netflix announced the fantasy series's release date. The Liam Hemsworth-starrer will drop sometime in 2026, though the streamer has not revealed the exact date of release. In its 2026 release slate, Netflix announced a string of much-awaited shows and movies, and 'The Witcher' Season 5 also had a crisp synopsis as part of the release announcement.
The official logline read, "The time of the end is nigh: dark forces are aligning all across the Continent with villainous designs on Ciri. Even if Geralt and Yennefer can save their daughter and fulfill their last wish of reuniting as a family, they’ll have to face obstacles — and enemies — the likes of which they’ve never faced before."
'The Witcher' season 4 dropped in October 2025 with Hemsworth taking over from Henry Cavill as the iconic Geralt of Rivia. Season 5 will also see Hemsworth in his second run as Geralt, while Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra reprise Ciri and Yennefer one final time. Ciri's storyline has been central to the plot this season, and the final episode is expected to round up the arcs of each of the key characters. Season 4 has opened to rave reviews and now sets up a thrilling and emotional final season.
Earlier, showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich shed light on the release window for the fifth season. "It's hopefully shorter," she told Variety. "Two and a half years is never ideal." The head honcho also added that the writers' strike played a key role in Season 4's delay. Speaking about season 5, "We are working so hard in post; we wrapped almost a month ago. We’re pushing ahead and hope to be able to deliver it to audiences a little bit sooner."
"The good news is I won't say goodbye to it quite yet, because I'm in post[-production] for a very long time for season five," Hissrich told GamesRadar+. "I expected to have this period of mourning, frankly. That first sort of Monday morning that you wake up and you don't know where to go… you're not going to see these people that you see every day. I kept waiting for that to hit me."
With the previous season releasing in the fall of 2025, it's safe to speculate that season 5 may arrive around the same time. With production ending last year, it might not be long before fans get a tease of what to expect in the form of a first look or a teaser-trailer. 'The Witcher' Season 4 is streaming on Netflix.
