LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Billie Eilish was honored at the 2023 Variety Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 3.

While expressing gratitude for the award, the 'Bad Guy' singer didn't mince words when calling out Variety for their red carpet questions that seemingly "outed" her sexuality, creating a divide among the netizens.

In an Instagram post on Sunday featuring snapshots from the event, Eilish acknowledged Variety for the honor bestowed upon her but didn't shy away from addressing the uncomfortable red carpet moment.

She wrote, "Thanks, Variety, for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters."

The caption accompanied a shot of her belt buckle, adorned with the silhouettes of two women.

Eilish concluded her post by asserting her desire for privacy, stating, "I like boys and girls, leave me alone about it, please. Literally, who cares? Stream 'what was i made for'."

The controversy erupted after Eilish openly discussed her attraction to women in a cover story interview with Variety. In the interview, she candidly shared her feelings, expressing that she "never really felt like she could relate to girls very well" but is "attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real."

"I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence," added the singer, as per Variety.

During the red carpet event, Eilish confirmed the unintentional outing, explaining that she hadn't intended to come out in that manner.

Reflecting on the situation, she expressed surprise at the revelation, stating, "I didn’t realize people didn’t know. But I saw the article, and I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I came out today.’ OK cool. It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, but it’s cool that they know."
