Madonna condemns Putin’s attack on Ukraine, trolls say 'she needs to plan her funeral'
Pop queen Madonna can’t digest the lies claimed by Russian President Vladimir Putin after he ordered a “special military operation” on Ukraine on February 24. The legendary singer, who is probably the first pop star to openly slam Putin, shared a remixed interlude of her 2009 hit single ‘Sorry’ to take a dig at the Russian politician with the help of a heavily edited video. Madonna in 2020 had claimed that she was fined $1million for supporting Russia’s LGBTQ community at a 2012 show.
In her latest stunt, the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker took to her Instagram to share an edited 30-second video clip with her close to 18 million fans. In the video, we see the crooner singing, “Lies and I cant take it” as the shots of Vladimir Putin and Hitler are flashed along with the images of people injured during the war. Madonna accompanied the edited clip with a lengthy caption where she claimed, “Russia’s Pointless and Greed Driven Invasion Of the Ukraine MUST be stopped!!”

A few Hollywood celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Angelina Jolie, ‘Dancing With the Stars’ pro Val Chmerkovskiy, and a few others took to their respective social media accounts to extend their support to Ukraine. However, Madonna seems to be the first pop star from the industry who voiced a stronger opinion on the matter. In her caption, she added, “Please Send in Humanitarian Aid to help millions of citizens of the Ukraine who’s lives are being affected by this CRISIS at this very moment.”
The award-winning singer-songwriter further shared, “Putin has Violated Every Human Rights Accord in Existence. Putin has no right to try to erase the existence of the Ukraine. We support you President Zelensky!! We are praying for you and your country! God Bless You All!” concluding, “Lets not feel helpless when confronted by Geo-political Actions of this magnitude.” Madonna then took her Instagram stories and shared an image that read, “We stand with Ukraine.” In 2012, Madonna made headlines when she voiced her support for the local gay community at her show in St. Petersburg.
‘Madonna needs to worry about planning her funeral’
Social media users did not waste any time sharing their valuable opinion as soon as Madonna made her stand on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “Why is she using this situation to promote her song”, asked one as another posted, “Kinda insensitive but she has the right idea.” One user posted, “Madonna needs to worry about planning her funeral.” The next one added, “My girl just needs a social media manager. I think she always has good intent, she’s Madonna, she’s always spoken out against injustice. The posts are just poorly executed.”
Meanwhile, one tweeted, “She could’ve raised awareness without making it about herself but it’s madonna so i’m really not surprised.” Another user shared, “We love her but this didn't make any sense.” And, one individual posted, “We’re going to pretend we didn’t see this.” While, one concluded, “Madonna shares this weird edit of her dancing with Putin and Hitler and some maps and pictures of war and then again her dancing.............I am speechless.”
