Angelina Jolie's son Maddox breaks silence on strained relationship with Brad Pitt: 'Whatever happens, happens'
Maddox Jolie-Pitt is thousands of miles away from his parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie after he started college in South Korea, but the 18-year-old misses his family every day.
The oldest child of Jolie and Pitt, who divorced in 2016, spoke to a reporter between classes at Yonsei University. During the interview, he opened up about the dynamics within the Jolie-Pitt family, as seen in footage obtained by In Touch Weekly.
Maddox was asked whether his siblings, 15-year-old Pax, 14-year-old Zahara, 13-year-old Shiloh, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, were happy about his college journey, to which he responded saying, "Yeah, I think so."
However, the biochemistry student was a bit reluctant to talk about his strained relationship with 54-year-old Pitt. Ever since an alleged altercation between them on board a private jet in 2016, the father-son duo has spent little to no time together.
According to previous reports, this was the incident that forced 44-year-old Jolie to file for divorce from the veteran Hollywood superstar. Maddox was then asked whether his father planned to visit him at university.
"I don’t know about that [or] what’s happening," he replied, before answering a question about whether his relationship with Pitt was over. "Well, whatever happens, happens," he said.
The freshman, however, said on a happier note that he is performing "very good" at school and that he is staying in a dorm room. According to him, he is now focusing on learning to speak Korean and does not see himself clubbing anytime soon.
"I've got four years, so I’ll find out," Maddox quipped. The teenager is currently listening to bands such as The Clash and The Business. During the interview, he revealed that he's a "diehard punk fan".
We had earlier reported that Angelina Jolie dropped her eldest son off at the university in August this year. She was seen in a video shared on social media telling a group of students "it seems like a great school" before admitting that she was "trying not to cry."
Speaking later about the upsetting moment, Angelina admitted, “Yes, I cried". "He was very sweet and gave me a big long hug," she said of how the 18-year-old consoled her. "It's that transfer when they start taking care of you and making sure you're OK."
Us Weekly later learned from an unnamed source that Pitt got to know about Maddox's schooling plans only through the media.
