Ludacris shares video of two female NYPD cops smoking hookah while on duty, Angry Internet says 'fire them'
Rapper Ludacris shared an interesting video featuring two NYPD cops on a smoke break, but with a twist. In a video posted to his Instagram, Ludacris showed his audience two female cops who, instead of smoking regular cigarettes, appeared to be sharing a pipe connected to a hookah that was placed inside their police car. The rapper captioned his post, "Serve, Protect. Smoke & Chill #nowthatsludicrous," and while some found the video hilarious, others thought it was in poor taste.
One comment on the post read, "Coolest cops I ever seen. Dey should get a raise for knowing how to keep the peace," while another innocently asked, "What’s wrong with a smoke break." For some, the smoking itself wasn't the issue, it was the hookah being used. "Smoke a L, that Hookah s**t wack," stated one user, obviously not a fan of the contraption. Another found their use of the hookah amusing, as they wrote, "Lord they put the hookah in the car?" While not immediately apparent what the two cops were smoking, some began to speculate it may have been marijuana, seeing as hookahs are occasionally used as bongs as well. But hookahs can also be used to smoke regular tobacco, so it isn't clear what was in the one the two officers were smoking.
While some berated the officers for choosing to smoke on the job, mockingly calling them, "NYC’s Finest" and stating they were "a shame," with other users adding, "Smh of course This is the Bronx," some thought they didn't deserve the heat, sharing, "Let them live." Some users took issue with the two sharing the pipe, stating, "Covid on the rise." Others didn't have an issue with the smoking, just that the officers were doing it while on duty. One user laughed, "Yeah they definitely abandoning policing for that moment," while another said on a more serious note, "It’s sad smoking on the job."
They added they didn't mind as long as "you do your job right," along with the hashtag #wematter in reference to the recent protests against police brutality. Some stated they probably needed the break owing to the general public being rather anti-cop at present, with one user stating, "Hey f**k it, after you all turned on even the good ones, I'd just smoke a blunt too." Others joked that they were, in fact, doing their jobs, commenting that, "In order to be a good narcotics agent, you should have narcotics in your system!"
While most comments had users laughing at the situation, it soon got pretty serious as one declared, "This town is getting f**ked up every day. People without a brain," and another stated, "NY tax dollars going for these two to be lounging while on the clock." Others, however, pointed to a much more serious issue: "Why post this? They sure lost their jobs now." Possession of marijuana is illegal in New York City, though there are exemptions for medical marijuana. But regardless of the substance itself, the officers may face some discipline for smoking a hookah while ok duty. One user declared, "They definitely got fired," while another demanded, "Fire Them." One user noted an issue with them getting disciplined, however, stating, "Bet they get fired before Breonna Taylor’s murderers are arrested."
