'Love Island' star Theo Campbell blinded in one eye after flying champagne cork splits eyeball in half
'Love Island' star Theo Campbell has lost all vision in his right eye after a freak accident while holidaying in Ibiza.
Campbell's right eye was "split in half" after it was hit by a champagne cork, and could not be saved by doctors even after two separate operations.
Speaking about the incident, a source told OK! Online, "Theo was on holiday in Ibiza enjoying himself when someone popped a bottle of Champagne and the cork flew into his eye. People were screaming when they realized what happened and saw the state of his eye. One of the guys said it looked like his eye had exploded."
"Theo was taken to hospital and we haven't heard from him since," the source continued. "Kaz [Crossley, his girlfriend] flew out to see him and will be staying with him until he's able to leave and go back to England."
The star confirmed the news with an Instagram post where he can be seen posing on the hospital bed with a heavily bandaged eye with his girlfriend Kaz Crossley lying next to him.
"Thanks for all the messages and support I’ve got over the last couple days they’re all very much appreciated!" he wrote, before detailing the incident further.
"So yeah basically 2 eye surgeries later after a really unfortunate accident, I’ve lost all vision in my right eye as it got split in half, who would have thought a champagne cork would be the end of me," he continued. " But I still have 1 eye left, looking at the bright side of things."
Crossley also shared a short video of herself planting a kiss on her boyfriend as he came around after his second operation with the caption, "Got him back out of surgery... what are u like babe."
Campell thanked Crossley, a 'Love Island' contestant in 2018, for flying out to Ibiza immediately after finding out that he had been admitted to the hospital.
"Thanks for flying out to look after me as well babe... " he wrote, before poking fun at his situation and adding, "if anyone knows where sells cool eye patches let me know."
Even his hashtags, #captinhook #thor #fettywap seemed to indicate that he was taking his situation pretty well and is in good spirits.
As the news broke, several celebrities and fans offered their best wishes to Campbell, with former 'TOWIE' star Georgia Harrison, who featured alongside him in the third series of 'Love Island,' commenting on his post, "Love you more than anything in the world. Nothing will hold you back I promise xxxxxxxx"
She later wrote on her Instagram, "Love them so much words couldn't even describe... get well soon @theo_campbell91 and @kazcrossley you are the most amazing girlfriend. Thank god for you."
Marcel Somerville, who was also on the show with him, wrote, "Ah bro sorry to hear this news, everything will be bless g, mad things happen in life but we roll with the punches. Mans jus got a new niche fashion accessory to rock."
