Lori Harvey's followers criticized her weight-loss strategies on social media when she revealed that she was only eating up to 1,200 calories each day. On Friday, July 3, the 25-year-old model discussed how she lost weight after putting on 15 pounds while dating her now ex-boyfriend Michael B Jordan.

Harvey started her TikTok video by saying, "When Mike and I got together, I gained like 15 pounds of relationship weight, and it was horrible. None of my clothes fit. It just was not okay." She said, "I've been consistently doing pilates for the past year. I've done it for a few years but I've been really consistent the last year," adding that for the first six weeks, she worked out twice a day.

Harvey then discussed her nutrition at the time, saying she was only consuming "1,200 calories a day max." Fans instinctively criticized her approach on social media, saying it was "harmful" for her to possibly persuade others to attempt it for themselves.

One fan wrote, "Yikes. She needs way more calories than that for her activity level. Plus, being at that level of deficit will likely negatively impact her metabolism. Not doing what she is thinking/hoping it will," to which a fan responded to wrote, "She's 5'3 120lb, 1200 calories seems fine. There's nothing wrong with her and she's got pro trainers and nutritionists working with her she's aight and yall doing too much."

Another fan expressed doubt about the strategy and wrote, "Telling young women to get like this you have to starve yourself and then saying, 'do what's best for you,' is so damaging. The disclaimer is so disingenuous in context."

Many other admirers thought Harvey ought to be left alone with one fan writing, "Can y'all leave people who just want to be happy in their body alone? She literally said nothing wrong. Anybody whose trying to lose weight understands you need to be in a calorie deficit. 15 lbs looks and feels different on every body."

One more individual in support of Harvey wrote, "Leave this woman alone and let her live her life! What she eats and how she exercises affect her, not you. S**t she looks healthy to me. I personally believe that we consume too many calories and overeat on a daily. Good for her. I may try out her routine my damn self."

One person, who denounced religious fasting, wrote, "If you think this is bad, wait until you hear about the religious fasts with only fruit and water for periods of times," to which someone replied mockingly, "My cousin did one of those weight loss fast/cleanse and ended up with some badddd diarrhea."

However, it seemed like Harvey was already bracing for some backlash as she wrote in the video's comments section, "Before y'all start your s**t this is what worked for me and MY body..everyone is different so tailor your needs to meet your goals."
