Lizzo took home the award of Top Song Sales Artist at 2020 Billboard Music Awards and while accepting the award she made sure the moment remains etched in everyone’s mind for long as she stepped on the stage in a black outfit with the word ‘Vote’ written all over it. Not only this, but she also delivered a thought-provoking speech after accepting the award where she spoke about suppression and how “big black women” who refused to let their voices be suppressed.

Taking to the stage, the 32-year-old award-winning artist asserted, “If you are at home watching this and you are thinking about changing yourself to feel worthy, then this is your sign to remain true to who you are. Let me tell y'all something. When people try to suppress something, it's normally because that thing holds power. They are afraid of your power. There's power in your voice, whether it's through music, protest or your right to vote. Use your power, use your voice, and refuse to be suppressed.”
