Rapper Lil Mama announced on Thursday, March 18, that she was going to start a "heterosexual rights movement" to protest against "bullying" by LGBTQ people. The 31-year-old broke the news on her Instagram account, and social media was quick to call her out for playing the victim.

Lil Mama, whose real name is Niatia Jessica Kirkland, in an Instagram post said: "I’m about to start a heterosexual rights movement.” She continued: "Y’all fight so hard to be respected and SOME of you, NOT ALL get a kick out bullying people for having an option, how they dress, how their hair and or makeup looks, how much money they have, etc."

She then added "There are so many people afraid to give their honest opion [sic] because if they do the LGBTQ+ will hear what they want to hear and take statements out of context." She was quick to explain that none of these claims were to express anti-gay sentiments, neither did she have any, but she still feels obliged to speak out.

“I don’t have to prove myself by reminding people that I have loved ones of the LGBTQ+ Community,” she concluded. “When I speak I’m not trying to hurt anyone, I’m just speaking my truth, just like you all.”

The comments in her Instagram story did not go down well when the outlet PopCrave shared it on their official Twitter account. Under the tweets that with screenshots of what Lil Mama had posted, users wrote "And that’s why she’s performing at pool parties." Another came for the Comic Sans MS font she used to type on her story announcing the movement. "Girl not with that font... very fitting i guess, tacky just like the movement." One simply declared "her opinion doesn’t matter bc i have no clue who she is." Another tweet mocked her saying: "straights want to be oppressed so bad."

But this isn't the first time Lil Mama has made headlines with her opinions. Just two weeks ago, the rapper had retweeted a since-deleted post insisting that children do not have the necessary maturity to undergo gender transition.

The post read: “So children are too young to smoke cigarettes, too young to drink alcohol, too young to get a driver’s license, too young to go to a club, too young to gamble, too young to rent a car, but old enough to cut off their genitals and/or ‘change’ their gender? This is insanity America."

Some however replied with support for Lil Mama. "I am gay and I totally get her. I know a lot of lgbtq+ people who are really bullies and are most of the time not abiding the rules. People can't fight back at them because they then call out for sympathy from other members and always pull up the homphobia and discrimation card," wrote one person.

In a second tweet, the Twitter user added: "Yes, it is true that we are majorly being discriminated and hated against but we cannot deny the fact that a lot of members of the community do the wrong things because they feel that the whole lgbtq+ community is on their backs ready to attack with the homophobia card."
