'I was like, 'f*** it': Margot Robbie stunned Brad Pitt when she went off-script with surprise kiss in 'Babylon'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a surprising turn of events during the filming of 'Babylon', Margot Robbie decided to take a bold step and deviate from the script, catching her co-star Brad Pitt off guard with an impromptu kiss. The 32-year-old actress, who is starring in the upcoming movie 'Barbie', revealed that the passionate moment between her and Brad Pitt, 59, was not originally written in the script.
Robbie seized the opportunity, explaining, "When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I'm just gonna go for it." Even the director, Damien Chazelle, couldn't ignore Robbie's audacious move. She successfully convinced him to include the impromptu kiss in the final cut by arguing that it made sense for their characters to share that intimate moment. However, Robbie felt a sense of accomplishment when she proved the filmmaker wrong and managed to incorporate her improvised kiss into the film.
Margot Robbie surprises Brad Pitt with an impromptu kiss
"I said, 'Damien (Chazelle, the director), I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack (Brad's character).' And Damien was like, 'Well, she could - wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt.' And I was like, 'Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again.' And he was like, 'It does work for the character,' and I was like, 'I think so,'" said Robbie, according to E! News.
Reflecting on the unexpected scene, Robbie shared, "In 'Babylon', Nellie kisses a lot of people. I actually improvised a kiss that wasn't in the script. We were doing a party scene, and Nellie goes up to Brad Pitt's character and Katherine Waterston's character, and I was like, 'F*** it. I'm just gonna kiss them and see what happens.' They were a little bit shocked." She also expressed her delight in kissing Pitt and her reaction when Chazelle asked for a retake, saying, "He was like, 'No, do it again. That really works.' I was like, 'Oh, great.'"
When was I going to get a chance to do this again?
Pitt himself confirmed that the kiss was not part of the original script and that he had also made a similar request. During an interview with the Australian news show 'The Project', he humorously shared, "No (it wasn't scripted.) I had asked for it, if we can write that in. You know, when was I going to get a chance to do this again? And we did it. I might add too that Nellie (Margot's character) kisses 15 people in this movie."
'Babylon' is described as a "tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess" that "traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood." The film, starring Robbie and Pitt, boasts an ensemble cast including Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde, and Jean Smart.
