Leonardo DiCaprio accepted a huge pay cut to work with Clint Eastwood

The 'Killers of the Flower Moon' star aimed to broaden his career horizons by taking on a role in 'J Edgar', a film based on the life and career of FBI director J Edgar Hoover. This project was unlike anything DiCaprio had previously worked on, and he desired to explore diverse genres and characters. In order to convince Eastwood to cast him as the lead in the movie, DiCaprio ultimately agreed to a significant pay cut of 90% from his usual earnings. Despite the opportunity to choose a bigger-budget film, Eastwood understood DiCaprio's ambition and the importance of this creative decision.

'He could have made a lot of money'

"He could have made a lot of money just doing spectacle movies with all kinds of CGI," Eastwood said. "But he wants to vary his career as I’ve always looked to vary mine as a director," said Eastwood, as per Fandomwire. However, despite high expectations, 'J Edgar' faced significant disappointment at the box office, receiving negative reactions from both critics and audiences. The movie's overall reception resulted in a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, amidst the film's shortcomings, one aspect stood out and received undeniable praise from critics—the spectacular performances delivered by the cast.
