Understanding Lemon8
ByteDance-owned app Lemon8, an Instagram rival that describes itself as a “lifestyle community,” has jumped into the US App Store’s Top Charts. Lemon8 was first launched in 2020 in Japan, and by 2022, the app had secured more than five million monthly users globally. In February 2023, it was released in the US and the UK. It has become popular in Asian countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
A user wrote, "Idk why y’all not using Lemon8 .. it’s so laid back and fun. It ain’t even gotta be about business, just post your life. It’s kinda like photo vlogging"

Since TikTok’s future in the United States remains uncertain at the moment, users of the app are curious about Lemon8. If the country bans TikTok, it is highly possible that its customer base will shift to this new app by ByteDance.
Features you should know
1. Although Lemon8 and TikTok both include a 'Following' and 'For You Page', that is about where the similarities between the two services end. When a user views the 'For You Page', a bar with the distinct feeds for each interest appears, enabling them to switch between various creators and articles according to the category to which they belong.
2. The app's use of Canva-like graphic design in the majority of postings is one of its most striking characteristics.
3. It also combines various iconic user interface ideas from TikTok. Lemon8 is split into a 'Following' and 'For You Page', which will serve content based on an algorithm. Much like Pinterest and Instagram, you can save posts and add them to a collection for either a mood board or general ideas for what to make for dinner.
4. Posting to Lemon8 is pretty much identical to both of its inspirations. Photos and videos operate like Instagram, while captions function much like Pinterest, with a bigger focus on creating interesting text to accompany your post. It even uses Pinterest’s feature of giving you emoji prompts and lists.
