If TikTok is banned, it would bring about major changes in the social media landscape. Millions of users who have made the app a part of their daily routine would need to find other platforms to express themselves on.

It could also significantly impact the livelihoods of TikTok content creators who have built up large followings and rely on the platform's monetization options. In addition, potential legal challenges are likely to arise from users contesting their right to free expression and use of the app.

What will happen to Tiktok creators?

This narrative has so many interesting aspects. American social media companies are eager for a ban as well as their stock prices would likely soar. Creators, who built their brands and businesses on the app, are now afraid of what will happen in a post-TikTok world, according to Lifehacker.com.

There is also a potential political backlash to the ban as young people already detest the government for targeting their favorite social media platforms. After all, Instagram and YouTube did not spend so much time imitating TikTok's video features for nothing. It also illustrates the lack of serious responses from the administration to the issues TikTok raises.

If TikTok was banned, Americans wouldn't be sending their data to ByteDance, but that wouldn't stop the enormous amount of data that is being given to every other company that Americans use, including other softwares developed by Chinese companies.

Layoffs

Around 100 people were laid off by TikTok in July 2022 across the world and at least 20 more were let go one month later from the advertising department. A few employees from TikTok's HR division were laid off in January due to the team's "low practical usefulness" to the business.

However, the company aims to hire more individuals in other jobs within the company, although employees affected by the layoff can still apply for other open roles and explore internal options.
