'Legacies' season 1 episode 13: What MG and his bromance could mean for Kaleb

We wouldn't be far from the truth if we said that the story arc between Milton Greasley (Quincy Fouse) and Kaleb (Chris Lee) has become one of the most interesting arcs on 'Legacies' - especially after this week's episode. An insane rollercoaster that episode 13 was, nothing could overshadow the bond that these two vampires develop as the story progresses, and that's saying a lot considering we just found out what Landon Kirby might possibly be.
These two were peas in a pod from the time we saw them go hard against Mystic Falls High, but what makes their relationship so interesting now is the way they've grown to become their own person but yet remain so co-dependent.
While MG has gone from being a cheerful guy who had a crush on the headmaster's daughter to a potential Ripper who killed a friend, Kaleb too has transitioned into a thoughtful character, who cares about his friends and isn't afraid of being vulnerable. If you remember, Kaleb actually used to be one of the most disliked characters on the show because of how arrogant he was.

In many ways, the characters of MG and Kaleb have been intertwined and run parallel to each other, if you really think about it. While it was Kaleb who encouraged MG to feed on humans, it was MG's thirst that made Kaleb realize that real life was no child's play. MG's Ripper tendencies forced Kaleb's rude awakening, and now, he's convinced that he must have his back because deep down he blames himself for leading him on.
Rippers are vampires that kill without conscience and cannot stop themselves from feeding until they kill the victim. Now it is a tendency that many vampires already have, like Stefan Salvatore from 'The Vampire Diaries', and all it takes is the taste of blood for them to turn off their humanity switch.
With younger vampires like MG, their self-control being on the weaker side, tasting human blood can often trigger the Ripper curse. The most important distinction between Kaleb feeding on people now and then and MG going psycho is their levels of self-control.

While it is true that Kaleb did introduce him to human blood and taught him how to feed, MG's Ripper avatar, if it ever goes full blown that is, will definitely not be Kaleb's fault. But the irony is, he will most probably go on through life believing it to be true.
There is a potential that their relationship will go on to become as complicated as Damon and Stefan Salvatore's was in 'The Vampire Diaries' or as toxic as Elijah and Klaus Mikaelson's was in 'The Originals'. Julie Plec does like to play around with the brother dynamic a lot and the clear winner for 'Legacies' are these two.
Going forward, there's definitely a chance that MG will lash out again and Kaleb will realize that the situation is beyond his control. He will, however, try to protect his "family" as much as he can, maybe even at the cost of his own feelings and safety. It will be very interesting to see how it will pan out for them.
'Legacies' season 1 episode 14 airs on Thursday, March 14 at 9/8c on The CW.
