‘The Voice’ Season 19: Gwen Stefani picks Payge after stellar duet with Lauren, fans say ‘record together please’
After the talented singers from Team Blake, Team Kelly and Team Legend sweated it out on the stage with their respective opponents, it was now the turn of Gwen Stefani’s contestants, Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner, to take over the mic. Both the singers covered JP Saxe’s ‘If the World Was Ending’ in their own style. And, just like the previous contestants, the 16-year-old Lauren and Payge were showered with praises.
Payge started her battle round against the young lady with her soothing voice whereas, Lauren turned out to be an equal stunner. Kelly Clarkson was left completely floored from Payge’s performance and gave her vote to the singer, whereas John Legend said it was too difficult for him to choose between the two. Blake Shelton too went for Payge.
The battle round saw a lot of drama as the judges seemed very impressed with the two. After Gwen Stefani picked Payge for the Knockout round, Lauren was heading back when all of a sudden John decided to save her and before we could digest this Blake came into the picture and pressed the red buzzer to again steal the teenager with an intention to get her in his team whereas, he had earlier voted for Payge. In a rare event, it was now Lauren who had to pick between John and Blake. And feeling overwhelmed, she picked John her new coach.
Internet was also quick to react to the entire situation. One user took to Twitter and asserted, “Lauren Frihauf vs Payge Turner woman-handles those rich low notes, so rich. A good complement to Lauren’s high, light tone. She navigates her range well. Beautiful duet, giving me that ache. #TheVoice #VoiceBlinds.” Another said: “I vote Lauren Frihauf and you’re the greatest singer in The Voice world history.” While tagging both the singers, one individual added, “Record Together Please!” and another felt the same, “These Two Need To Cut That Togethet! (sic).”
