Vince Gilligan teases wild ending for ‘Pluribus’ but fans already have some theories: ‘Carol is going to...’
Apple TV series ‘Pluribus’ is inching closer to its highly anticipated finale. The series created by Vince Gilligan, well-known for his works on ‘Breaking Bad’ and 'Better Call Saul,’ follows author Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), who is one of the few people unaffected by an extraterrestrial virus that has turned humanity into a peaceful and hive mind known as ‘the Others.’ In case you’re wondering, ‘Pluribus’ premiered on November 7 with two episodes. The first season of ‘Pluribus’ consists of nine episodes, and the last episode of the show is scheduled to premiere on Friday, December 26, 2025.
In a recent interview with Variety, Gilligan candidly spoke about the ending of ‘Pluribus’ and shared, "I think we have a pretty good idea of where it should end. One of the most important things I can do in the writers' room is not be too precious about the ideas. If we come up with a better way to end this thing, we will." On the other hand, many fans of the show, ‘Pluribus’, have shared their own theories about the ending of the American post-apocalyptic science fiction television series.
One Reddit user wrote, “Carol is going to save the world, and afterward she’ll end up with more than enough material to write about. And since almost everyone who was part of the hivemind probably won’t remember much of what happened, she’d have a massive audience eager to read her work. It feels like a perfect full-circle ending for a character who’s an author at heart.” Followed by a second user who penned, “And so it will end with a thought bomb. When Carol is assimilated, the whole world has access to her memories, and being a writer, she will design a “thought bomb” that makes everyone else feel as miserable as she is, and sever the hive mind’s ability to control them.”
Another user echoed the same sentiments by writing, “I love the thought bomb angle. The show could lead us the the inevitable but sad realization that Carol is about to be assimilated. Carol will figure out a way to destroy the hive as they begin her assimilation.” A fan noted, “I like the idea that everyone goes back to being an individual, but I'm not sure about the full-circle ending connecting with her writing ambitions. Maybe everyone remembers what it was like to be a collective mind and are never truly the same after?” A Redditor quipped, “I think she will destroy the hive. But in turn, it will kill the human within them, too. No one will live, and she will be even more alone. I feel this is similar to Breaking Bad. No one wins, and it was just someone’s ego the whole time. The hive was actually paradise synced to the earth. And she was actually the cancer.”
