WASHINGTON DC: Washington Freedom Caucus Rep Lauren Boebert is in the limelight again. This time for saying that if assault weapons were banned in the US, Americans will resort to eating dogs, like in Venezuela, where she believes "they eat the dogs because they don't have firearms." Boebert made these bizarre remarks while speaking to Newsmax's Sebastian Gorka recently, opening up about her views on the importance of guns in the US.

A video of her claims has gone viral, in which she said, "If the citizenry in America is disarmed then we are no longer citizens we are subjects. You know here in America we have gourmet treats for puppies, we have these amazing groomers for dogs," adding, "Well in Venezuela they eat the dogs and it started because they don't have firearms. They do not have a way to protect themselves, to defend themselves against a tyrannical government."

In the interview, Boebert also spoke about her confrontation with 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke in 2019, before she took office. At the time, O'Rourke had proposed that citizens' firearms be confiscated. Boebert was then the owner of a restaurant where the staffers carried firearms. "I have four children, I am 5-foot-0, 100 pounds, cannot really defend myself with a fist," she had said at the time. "'I want to know how you're going to legislate that because a criminal by [definition] breaks the law, so all you're going to do is restrict law-abiding citizens, like myself," she added.

Boebert is being trolled on social media for her remarks about eating dogs. "Whoa! So, guns are the reasons American puppies have nice treats?!" one user wrote on Twitter. "What am I missing in that I have completely no idea how she got from Point A to Point B here?" one user wrote.

Another user said, "Pay attention. Point A: People in Venezuela eat dogs because Point B: they don't have guns. Now that that's cleared up. I find it most interesting that she figured out that having a job would lead to her being able to provide for herself."

One user said, "I'm Canadian. We have gun laws banning assault weapons. Neither I nor my neighbours have eaten any dogs." "But what about cats? Will they be safe? Been thinking about getting another dog, but it would break my heart to be forced to eat him," one user wrote.

Another user commented, "Cats are fine. No need to eat them. However know that if you die in your house, the cats will in fact eat YOU. Most cat owners are completely ok with that. Now HAMSTERS on the other hand…"

"We didn't eat dogs before we had guns, in fact, we domesticated them to help with hunting and guarding. Some cultures do not look at animals as family or do consider them livestock, just like horses are in some countries. While that is true, why would we start to eat them now?" one user said.
