PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA: As Hurricane Ian hits Florida, Lara Trump faces criticism after she posted a video showing her five-year-old son driving a toy car outside during the pouring rain. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, September 28, the same day that the tropical storm made landfall in the state, her video has been the subject of people's anger, with many labeling it as "abuse."

The video shows five-year-old Eric Luke Trump, who Lara shares with her husband, Eric Trump, driving a top car on a deserted stretch of road while it is raining heavily. His mother walking beside him seems to be cheering him on while recording the clip. The little boy can be seen using one hand to shield his eyes from the shower.

"Oh my God, Luke. It’s so much rain. Go, you can do it, let’s go," cheered Lara, encouraging her son as he drives through the hurricane. In her caption, she appears to joke about the lesson her son might have learned from the experience. "Thought we had a clear window, turns out we did some character building instead 🙈🤣🌧🌀 stay safe everyone! 🙏🏽," she wrote.

However, many people were not amused by such an antic, berating the mother-of-two for letting her child out of the house while a Category 4 storm was raging on. "I don’t know what’s worse - that Lara Trump did this to her child, or that she filmed it and then posted it as some sort of brag," commented one person, while another was amazed at the former television producer's thoughtlessness, "What kind of mother does this to her child in the middle of a hurricane!?? Wow..." The excuse of building the child's "character" also did not sit well with others. "How does filming your child crying and posting it on social media "character build"?" questioned one person.

"What the actual f**k is wrong with you, @laraleatrump ? Not only filming your child crying and in the pouring rain, but posting it and LAUGHING about it? #worstmotheroftheyear," opined one user. There were several others who questioned the 39-year-old if she was even aware of the hurricane. "Nothing like taking your small child outside to play when the worst hurricane in years is approaching. He is obviously not enjoying it at all. Poor baby! #momoftheyear🙄🙄," added another.

Replying to one comment, Eric Trump tried to justify his wife's action. He wrote, "@autumndowling13 the storm is on the West Coast - we live about 200 miles south east where it has been sunny half the day. What a silly and hateful comment." Nevertheless, there were plenty who believed that the Trumps should pay heed to warnings regarding the hurricane. "Even if Lara Trump and her son were already outside when it started raining, she still filmed the poor boy while he was crying. Then posted the video on social media for millions to see. That is just cruel parenting," wrote one person.

Notably, the "extremely dangerous" Hurricane Ian made landfall on Wednesday and the streets of southwest Florida have felt the devastating effect.
