Veteran film and TV star L Q Jones, who was best known for Sam Peckinpah's classics ‘The Wild Bunch’ and ‘Ride the High Country’, died on Saturday, July 9 at his home in Hollywood Hills. He was 94. The sad news of his demise was shared by his grandson Erté deGarces. L Q Jones is now survived by his children, Randy, Steve, and Mindy. Born Justus Ellis McQueen, the late actor took his stage name L Q Jones with the role he played in his debut ‘Battle Cry’.
 
The news of L Q Jones’ death comes months after the legendary actor and comedian Louie Anderson died on January 21. He was admitted to the hospital days earlier after being diagnosed with cancer but sadly could not make it. Bob Saget is another icon that Hollywood lost on January 9. Speaking of celebrity deaths, Betty White died at 99 of natural causes on December 31, 2021. Chick Vennera, DMX, Jay Black, and Jeanette Maus are other public figures who passed away last year leaving their loyal fans devastated.

How did L Q Jones die?

L Q Jones was born Justus Ellis McQueen Jr. in August 1927 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the son of a railroad worker. His mother Jessie was killed in an automobile accident and he was raised by his relatives. Speaking of his death, Jones died of natural causes as his grandson Erté deGarces confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
 
Whilst sharing a photo of Jones, his grandson on Instagram wrote, “The legendary LQ Jones (aka Justice Ellis McQueen) took his last ride into the sunset this morning. He was at his sweet pad in the Hollywood Hills, surrounded by family, as he gave up the ghost” adding, “He made a son to be a dad for me, and gave a middle name for Romeo, and for that I am forever grateful. Thanks Mr. Jones, your family and fans will miss you.”
 
L Q Jones served in the US Navy and studied law at the University of Texas. The late renowned star portrayed the role of a westerner in a couple of classic Hollywood flicks like ‘The Mask of Zorro’, ‘Major Dundee’ and ‘The Patriot’ among others. With more than 60 screen appearances to his credit, Jones also produced, helmed, and wrote the 1975 classic sci-fi hit ‘A Boy and His Dog’. Jones also shot to fame with a memorable scene in Martin Scorsese's ‘Casino’. His other films include ‘Men in War’ (1957), ‘The Naked and the Dead’ (1958), ‘Flaming Star’ (1960), ‘Cimarron’ (1960), ‘Lone Wolf McQuade’ (1983), and many more.

He told great stories about his colorful career—especially the five films he made with Sam Peckinpah and his adaptation of Harlan Ellison‘s A Boy and His Dog. I’m smiling right now just thinking about him #RIP” Another user said, “Sad to hear about the passing of actor L.Q. Jones. I first remember him from The Beast Within and Lone Wolf McQuade.
