Duchess of style: Kylie Jenner has more influence than Meghan Markle when it comes to fashion and setting trends
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle seems to be enjoying the 'Meghan Markle effect' when it comes to her influencing fashion trends. But that does not mean she is on top. Currently, it has been revealed that Kylie Jenner has out-influenced Markle when it comes to fashion and setting trends.
According to a report by Page Six, Markle's fashion trends is not even close to the make-up mogul. In Lyst's 2018 fashion report it was stated that the 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star is currently the most influential celebrity when it comes to style in the fashion world. The Lyst report read, “Kylie has driven more than two million searches this year, from Adidas tracksuits and Dior sunglasses to Victoria’s Secret underwear and Alexander Wang minidresses. A pink minidress that she wore to her birthday party saw searches for ‘pink dresses’ increase 107% in the following 48 hours.”
While Markle did not make the first cut, she also couldn't take the second spot in the list either. It was revealed that the second spot went to Jenner's elder sister Kim Kardashian. Through her outfits, the make-up mogul managed to set trends with outfits like bike shorts, neon swimwear, and ’90s thongs after she shared pictures of her wearing those outfits on social media. She also caused 16% of an increase in Fendi related searches after she just posted a picture of herself in a Fendi logo outfit.
However, the Duchess of Sussex managed to make it to the third spot this year. Following her wedding in May, it led to a huge search history for Givenchy and Stella McCartney after she chose these designers to design her weddings gowns. According to Lyst's report, “On average, if Meghan wears a designer, that brand will see a +200% increase in search demand over the following week.”
Following Markle on the list was Cardi B, and then singer Beyonce. Tennis star Serena Williams ranked in at No 6 on the list of the most powerful fashion influencers which was due to the controversial sporting outfits that she wore during the US Open. Chiara Ferrangi, Blake Lively, Rihanna and Ariana Grande rounded off the top 10. It was also revealed in the report that Instagram is the most popular social media platform that influences fashion trends.
