TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Kyla Galer, a Florida reporter for NBC 2 became an overnight sensation as she defended using a condom on her microphone. She was speaking from a parking lot in Fort Myers, Florida while reporting the updates on Hurricane Ian which has devastated the state.

Kyla is a three-time Emmy award-winning journalist currently anchoring the news in Southwest Florida. She has worked extensively with KKTV 11 News and CBS Radio. However, the viewers were curious to understand what she used over the top of her microphone while reporting the hurricane.

After being bombarded with many questions across social media platforms, Kyla confirmed on her Instagram story on Wednesday, September 28 that she has used a latex condom on her microphone. Kyla also wrote on her Facebook profile, "A lot of you are asking, and YES I do have a condom on my mic. It is the best way to protect it from the wind and the rain #themoreyouknow  #HurricaneIan"



 



 

Meanwhile, according to CNN, the situations in Florida continue to worsen as a catastrophic trifecta of high winds, heavy rain, and historic storm increase in the state. It is reported that  Jacksonville International Airport cancels all flights as of now on Thursday, September 29. The city continues to witness widespread flooding, property damage, power outages, and water rescue calls.

'Pure genius'

Internet was quick to react to this amusing revelation. Jeff Butera of ABC 7 stated, " ** WE PRACTICE SAFE HURRICANE REPORTING ** Yes, it's a condom. Nothing better to waterproof a microphone. My Waterman Broadcasting colleague @kylagaler has been fielding lots of questions, haha. Moment of levity in this nasty storm... #HurricaneIan." Another user added, "What @kylagaler did with her microphone is pure genius."

Another user claimed, "Maybe she has alternative motives, she might be a little busy get in on while off the air." However, a user slammed her saying, "So classless and disgusting." A tweet read, "You’ve gotta respect a person who practices safe mic-ing. @kylagaler." Another tweet stated, "Safety first!" A user was confused and wrote, "Good idea, but that’s gotta affect the sound, right?."

A tweet called it as "Meme of the year." Another user chimed, "Man... I think we all have found our Halloween costume for 2022."  "Everyday it just gets more bizarre!," wrote another user.
