Kobe Bryant's wife Vanessa wants youngest daughter Capri to be included in his trust, files petition
Vanessa Bryant, the widow of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has reportedly asked a judge to include their youngest daughter Capri in a trust he created.
The nine-month-old was born after the trust was last updated, and so Vanessa asked that the document be amended to include her as well, according to a 'petition to modify trust' filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday, TMZ Sports reports.
Kobe reportedly created the trust in 2003 to provide for his wife and children, and it has been amended several times. According to the petition, it was last modified in 2017.
At the time of his death, Bryant had an estimated net worth of of $500 million.
Little Capri's siblings include Natalia, 16, Bianka, 2, and the now-deceased Gianna, 13.
Kobe, 44, and his daughter Gianna were both killed along with seven others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on January 26.
An investigation into the wreckage recovered from the crash site as conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found there were no signs of engine failure on the doomed chopper. It was later found that Ara Zobayan, the pilot flying Kobe's aircraft, had nearly navigated the helicopter to safety. However, poor visibility and fog caused the chopper to crash into the hillside.
Zobayan had been the chief pilot for Island Express Helicopters of Long Beach (which operated the chopper) for over a decade. The company also revealed Zobayan was a veteran pilot who had logged more than 8,000 flight hours.
But Vanessa filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Island Express Helicopters after the crash, alleging that Zobayan was careless and negligent by flying in dangerous conditions and should have aborted the flight. According to the NTSB, the doomed chopper lacked a terrain avoidance warning system (TAWS) when it crashed into a hillside, killing all on board.
The legendary Kobe Bryant was an 18-time All-Star and spent his entire 20-season career playing for the Los Angeles Lakers -- winning five NBA championships with them.
